Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions we hear most often.

  • I often let clients know that sex therapy is like any other form of therapy with the addition of an “open door” to explore topics related to sexuality and intimacy with a highly trained and knowledgeable professional. Some clients walk through this door every session, some with some frequency, and some never at all depending on what they are looking for.

Some common concerns of clients and couples seeking sex therapy include:

    Low/High Libido

Desire discrepancy (one partner wants more frequent sex than the other)

    Improving sexual pleasure

Sexual functioning concerns (erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, anorgasmia, vaginismus)

Out of control sexual behaviors/sex addiction

    Sexual or Gender Identity exploration

    Healing from sexual trauma

    Sexual kinks or fetishes

    Sexual insecurities or fears

  • Great! We work with many clients who are not interested in focusing exclusively on sex or who do not want to discuss sex/intimacy at all. Most of our clients fall under the umbrella of wanting support around issues with relationships and/or sex. This is a BIG umbrella and can include issues in family relationships, friendships, relationships with self, or romantic relationships. The ‘sex part’ is an invitation more so than a requirement. We will always honor your pace and interest in what you want to discuss, focus, and work on.

  • At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I (Kate) was forced to convert sessions from in person to virtual meetings. While I was initially hesitant, I found that the benefits of online therapy out weighed the burdens. Clients were sharing with me that sessions were more accessible without the commute or concern about expressing a full range of emotion in a public space. Couples were noting more flexibility in their scheduling since they can meet from separate locations. I could now meet with clients who live anywhere in Colorado and not only those within driving distance of my Denver office. Most importantly, I found no change in the progress or growth of my clients. While I haven’t completely taken the option of in person sessions off the table for the future, our practice is currently only offering telehealth sessions via a HIPAA compliant online platform.

  • Insurance companies require treatment of formal diagnoses. Since the bulk of our practice focuses on relationships and sex, a diagnosis is not always relevant, present, or ethical. Insurance companies can also dictate length of treatment and length of sessions. We prefer to collaborate with you about the type of treatment and services you are interested in.

  • While we are not in network with any insurance providers, we do offer Superbills. Superbills are detailed statements which you can turn in to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement with an “out of network provider.” Superbills do require a diagnosis and we are happy to discuss the implications of this with you. We also accept HSA/FSA cards and all major credit cards as forms of payment.

  • Our session costs vary by length, provider, and whether we are working with a couple or an individual. Our costs range from $180-250. Please contact us for more specific details.
