Megan MacKenzie, LCSW

Relationship and Sex Therapist

(They, She)

I’m Megan MacKenzie. My pronouns are they/she- feel free to use either. I work with individuals and people in relationships who are seeking greater authenticity, self-compassion, and capacity for intimacy, embodiment, and eroticism.

My Approach:

Drawing primarily from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), modern psychodynamic theory, and intersectional queer theory, I provide a validating and non-judgmental space for people to explore how past experiences have shaped current beliefs and patterns.

I am particularly passionate about supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community in healing from the impacts of societal stigma and marginalization. Together we will address the impacts of white cishetero patriarchal systems of oppression, especially as they are internalized as shame, guilt, and low self-esteem. My approach focuses on building self-awareness, resiliency, empowerment, and joy through a trans- and queer-affirming framework.

I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work, and have completed advanced training in IFS, EFT, and best practices for transgender people in mental health as guided by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). I am also currently enrolled in the Holistic Sex Therapy Counseling Training Program through The Institute for Sexuality Education and Enlightenment.

My Passion:

Social justice, anti-oppression, and psychological liberation are at the center of my role as a therapist. If you feel motivated to look at hard truths, ready to question what you’ve been taught you “should” be, and are even willing to sit in moments of discomfort and uncertainty along the way, we might be a great fit for working together. Sitting in the therapist’s chair is an honor, as I join the people I work with in their courageous journey of self-discovery and reconnection.

Outside of work, I find peace and respite from the busy world by moving my body, and connecting with nature and loved ones, whether that be deepening my meditation practice, hiking through rugged forest trails with my wife and our big goofy dog Milton, or savoring a beautiful home-cooked meal with chosen family.
